Box biography
BOX are described by their label, Rune Grammofon, as "something of an international supergroup", and with members from several notable acts in the avant jazz and rock field; Raoul BJÖRKENHEIM (SCORCH TRIO) on guitar and viol, Trevor DUNN (MR. BUNGLE, FANTÔMAS, SECRET CHIEFS 3) on bass, Ståle STORLØKKEN (SUPERSILENT, ELEPHANT9, HUMCRUSH) on keys and electronics, and Morgan ÅGREN (MATS/MORGAN BAND, FREDRIK THORDENDAL'S SPECIAL DEFECTS, KAIPA) on drums, they certainly are that.

The ensemble's members were hand-picked by writer and film-maker Philip Mullarkey, to record and play live for his art/film project [box]. Without having planned, scored or prepared any music, or even met, in advance, the four musicians went into Atlantis Studio in Stockholm to improvise for two days, with the six complex pieces of noise experimentation on the border of free jazz and psych rock that makes up their sole album, "Studio 1", as the impressive result.
