3 stars This is AGALLOCH's debut full-length album, and it's far from being average or boring. The thing is that in those times AGALLOCH were far from being regarded as Prog band. While they're still not Prog (in general sense of this word), it shouldn't mean Prog-lovers must avoid them, no way! From the very first record AGALLOCH have shown their ability to avoid usual Metal cliches, and their mix of Doom/Black/ Pagan/Folk/Whatever-Else-Metal is not only original and energetic, it's also melodic and emotional (the two things I like most in any kind of music). Maybe it's unfair to recommend AGALLOCH-newbies begin from 'Pale Folklore', since it's a bit rough and disbalanced work, but if you've already enjoyed 'The Mantle' or 'Ashes...', this album is more than a welcome addition to your AGALLOCH collection. Less Post-Rocky, less atmospheric, maybe, too rude for Proggers, but far from being derivative or bleak. Recommended
