THE SILENT CORNER AND THE EMPTY STAGE

I just love this album! Peter Hammills best solo album undoubtedly! Very dark and depressing lyrics reminescent of Pink Floyd but musically it almost sounds like a King Crimson album musically. Modern is a crazy song in which Hammills vocals almost sound as if he is deranged. Wilhelmina is a full-blown prog rock ballad, a love song that shows Peter Hammils lighter side. Forsaken Gardens is a hidden gem in the prog rock catalog and A Louse Is Not a Home is one of the best epics Hammill has ever written in which his vocals are almost operatic. All through the album you get the feeling that this is a Van Der Graaf Generator album and not Hammills solo work and it's no wonder, three of the original members play on the album! Excellent work by Peter Hammill!
