1 stars 'Fate' - Death (Compilation)

Essentially, 'Fate' is an attempt at a best-of compilation for the pioneering death metal band Death. Released only after the release of their fourth album 'Human', Chuck Schuldiner openly expressed his disdain for this compilation, and looking over even a handful of reviews and opinions from other fans, it is clear that the band's listeners share this sentiment. First off, due to the fact that this best-of compilation was released in 1992, it is leaving out nearly a half of Death's material, leaving 'Individual Thought Patterns', 'Symbolic', and 'The Sound Of Perseverance' out of the loop. I personally think that Death only improved with time, and were I making a playlist of my favourite tracks of the band, most of the material would be coming off of those last three albums. Really, with that in mind- and regardless of the actual music here, which is ill-chosen but indicative of the band's style- I cannot say good things about 'Fate', not even as a recommendation to a newcomer. A pretty pathetic release, even for a best-of compilation.
