4 stars Good compilation of HAWKWIND's 70's debut era. This compilation features no less than ones of the best of their works between 1970 and 1974, from psychedelic heavy powerful tracks to more spacey relaxing pieces.

It opens with the classic cosmic "Master of the Universe", the mindblowing "Brainstorm" and the powerful "Lord of Light". You will also have the pleasure to discover the live version of "Orgone Accumulator" featured on "Space Ritual", the best live record from HAWKWIND. Calmer tunes are present too with "Hurry on Sundown", "Paradox" and "Lost Johnny". The previously unreleased electronic rock versions of "Love in Space" and Tim Blake's "Lighthouse" are also very interesting and conclude efficiently this compilation.

"Masters of Rock" is recommended for HAWKWIND fans as well as people willing to discover the band, what space rock is about, as well as one of the sources of stoner rock, which inspired bands like KYUSS, ORANGE GOBLIN and MONSTER MAGNET.
