4 stars This is a really strong album from the band (by now a trio, but a really good one). There's an element of a jam session feel to a lot of this, starting right off with LSD which rocks along to Brock's lead (love the fact that after seven minutes, it suddenly hits a great groove for the final minute or so). The next track is Blue Shift which gives us the album's other element: spacey ambient, as if we're drifting through the universe (well, aren't we always with this band?). The album continues in this vein and is mighty good for doing so. Space Dust and Mask of the Morning are great but it's towards the end of the album where it really peaks: Sadness Runs Deep, Right To Decide and Going To Hawaii are classic. Hawkwind haven't made an album as good as this since, which is a shame (although I do like Alien 4). This is light years ahead of Take Me To Your Leader and we can only hope that Captain Brock knows this and is working tirelessly to put it right.
