5 stars Thanks to my dad's influence I've long considered myself a fan of prog rock. Now in my late twenties I've finally realised I've barely scratched the surface, and like many others am going to use this site to slowly broaden my horizons. Beginning with the 'Top 100' - over half of which I'm ashamed to say I haven't listened to in full.

Thankfully #1 on the list is one that I have. And it's #1 for a reason. While Close to the Edge isn't personally my favourite prog album, the title track is pretty much Prog Rock 101. If you're taking your first steps in the genre, I can't recommend starting anywhere else. Its not as "out there" as other lengthy suites that make up my list of 10/10 prog epics, but in my opinion has just about everything about it regarding what it means to be prog rock.

I can't do it any more justice than the rest of the 5 star reviews....
