50 LIVE

Yet another Hawkwind live album, this time from their 50th Anniversary tour (!). There's a fair few picks from All Aboard the Skylark, their then-latest studio album, and is often the case the new material came across much better live than it did in the studio - consider how The Business Trip live album shone a new light on the material from It Is The Business of the Future To Be Dangerous, or how Alien 4 was overshadowed by Love In Space (or, for that matter, how Space Ritual really took the material of Doremi Fasol Latido to the next level). As for the classic material, the present lineup gives it some fantastic renditions.

Not a classic on the level of their absolute best live albums - but when you are dealing with a live band of the calibre of Hawkwind whose back catalogue includes releases like Space Ritual, you can be a damn good live album and still not hit the top tier, and that's the case here.
