4 stars OK, so perhaps I am not a prog-rock expert, and perhaps I did not live through the golden age of Progressive Rock, but I am quite familiar with most of Yes' work, and they are definitely my favorite band of all time. You cannot even compare them to any other band in history, because the unique musicianship and soul that is called Yes music is absolutely astounding. (In fact, in my opinion, music is going through a slump in creativity and excitement right now.) "The Ladder" is a great album, not quite on par with some of their albums from the 70s, but it is still a pleasure to listen to. "Homeworld" is the best track on there because the lyrics and music are strong, powerful, and exciting. If anyone here is a fan of the book "Ender's Game", I think this would make a perfect "closing credits song" for the upcoming film version that is in the works. The keyboard playing by Khoroshev on "New Language" is impressive, and Howe and Squire shine in just about every song. Anderson also still retains his unique and soothing vocal talent. "The Ladder" is an accessible album to anyone who is not well versed in the music of Yes or prog-rock in general... one of those "starter albums" before you move them on to "Relayer" or "Close to the Edge". Take some time, sit back, and listen to "The Ladder". Enjoy!
