5 stars Yes's Close to the Edge is as close to a perfect album as has ever been recorded by anyone. This is their magnum opus, an album whose heights they could come near but never exceed.

The title cut is absolutely magnificent, starting with a Frippesque soundscape before moving into the song proper. The different sections capture the imagination with the interplay of the guitars and keyboards, while the bass and drums propel the song along its appointed course. Anderson's vocals are probably the best he has ever done, with both Squire and Howe adding excellent backing vocals. And You and I features brilliant guitar work and etherial keyboard play, whilst Anderson belts out his distinctive vocals. Siberian Khatru is another brilliant piece, with its guitar attack and swirling keyboards from Wakeman, propelled by Bruford's drumming.

As I said, this is a wonderful, near perfect album featuring awesome compositions and exquisite musicianship. Heartily recommended - 5 stars.
