TAKE IT BACK

Not only do I consider this one of the best of the non-waters Floyd songs, it it one of the best songs of the past decade, period. It has it all ... melody, pristine guitar, upbeat tempo, and the best double-meaning non-waters lyrics that Gilmore has attempted to date. When Division bell came out, one prominant reviewer disparaged Gilmore for copying the guitar style of U2's the edge! That's like saying the Chuck Berry copied the Beach Boys! Gilmores signature picking echo-reverb style can be heard as far back as 1971 and is particularly developed in Echoes on the re-entry to the tune. This style is mastered in this beautiful tune by making it THE melody, much like the strumming chord progression in Run Like Hell and the end of Sheep from Animals. Anyway, The only thing that could make it better would be a concise - young lust - like lead break. I give it 4 stars.

My favourite song from "The Divison Bell" album, it also was released as a single in 1994 after the album was released. My C.D. copy of this single (made in the U.S.) only has the full-lenght version of this song plus a live recording of "Astronomy Domine" recorded in the first concert of their 1994 tour, in Florida, in March 1994, in a rainy weather, as one review of that concert said in the now defunct British Vox Magazine that I bought that year.

"Take It Back" was a very good choice for a single, IMO. It has very good "dreamy keyboards" in the background, with some guitars sounding a bit similar to those played by guitarist The Edge in the band U2, but I think that David Gilmour was also a pioneer in the use of these "atmospheric" guitars (like in the song "Run Like Hell", from "The Wall" album). The promotional video for this song also was very "dreamy" in image, also very good. I saw it only once in one TV channel in my city.

The live version of "Astronomy Domine" included in this C.D. single is different to the live version included in their live album called "Pulse", which was released in 1995. The main difference is the addition of synthesizers played by Jon Carin. The live version included in "Pulse" doesn`t have these synthesizers, and it only has an organ played by Rick Wright.

I bought this single a few years ago, it was a bit expensive but worth buying. I witnessed the The Division Bell tour in 1994 and was impressed by the Pink Floyd trio their performance', very professional, inspired and of course delivering mindblowing visuals. This single is interesting because it showcases two totally different musical directions. First the pleasant and melodic but very polished progrock on Take It Back. And second the progressive psychedelic climate on Astronomy Domine (my favorite Syd Barrett composition) featuring wonderful electric guitar (question: who inspired who?), good vocals and tasteful keyboards. But I miss Syd his distinctive vocals and Rick his ominous sounding Farfisa organ...Nonetheless, this is a good progrock single and in my opinion an excellent addition to every Pink Floyd collection.

One day when I was rummaging through my mother's "old" CD and vinyl I came across this single (CD). I was hooked on "Take it Back" after just one listen and it is undoubtedly the best post-Waters Floyd song along with 'High Hopes.' Soon after finding this single I purchased 'The Division Bell.' "Take It back" is a nice and smooth psychedelic prog song and it flows very well, like most Floyd songs do. The Live version of "Astronomy Domine" is an interesting addition to this single, and it has a set of synthesizers added to the song. The version of "Take It Back" on the "PULSE DVD" is performed exceptionally well and it captures the feeling of the song very well, that whole concert is great! I can't give "Take It Back" more than three stars because to frank there just isn't enough content on it. Good, but non-essential

I bought this single at a local record flea-market and paid it pratically nothing. "Take it back" is a song from "The division bell" album released in 1994 and it's a very good uptempo track with a superbe arrangement which features Gilmour's delayed guitars, Wright's grandious hammond organ and female choir sections: in other words every possible Floyd trademark so far. The song deals with human beings relationship with Nature and with the Earth, which in the end will make us pay for every crime against environment "taking it back...someday". The Single also contains a live version of "Astronomy domine", later on avalaible also on "Pulse" and a mini poster depicting Pink Floyd on stage. Ignorable the radio-edit version of the first song.

Good music, not essential release (it's just a single after all).

Take it Back!

The Division Bell, the last Pink Floyd studio album and the second of the "Gilmour era", that has many followers (like me) since I believe it is a great and strong album, but it also has sadly some haters, but well that may be normal in this musical realm.

From that album, there was a single CD featuring one of the best and most recognized songs of it (after High Hopes, I presume), and that is its seventh track called "Take it Back".

A very good choice for a single I think, because it is a clear example of the latter Pink Floyd sound and it is a very good song, with good lyrics, an excellent atmosphere and mood, and great rhythm, so it is enjoyable and pleasant.

This CD single also features a very nice live version of Astronomy Domine, I know that sounds as a contrast because Astronomy is a very old Floyd song, where Gilmour was not part of the band, but instead Barrett was the main composer, so it is curious to see a track like this in a single of their last album, two different sounds together in one CD.

And the last track is an edited version of Take it Back, you know, that could be a "radio edit", nothing more.

It is a nice single without a doubt, one of the nicest songs of latter Floyd together with a good live version of the band's first singles, anyway, my grade will be 2 stars, it is just a nice single for fans.

C.D. Single with 3 tracks- 2 versions of "Take it Back" off of THE DIVISION BELL from 1994, and "Astronomy Domine" from a live performance. "Take it Back" reminds me of something by U2, due to the guitar playing. A single-edit version is also on here. The live cut of "Astronomy Domine", a song from the vaults of Floyd, presented here in a modern version is nicely done. I prefer the version on PULSE, however. Only the live track is something different offered on this single as "Take it Back" can be found on it's original album. This is a nice addition to the collection of any Pink Floyd nut, but not really needed for the casual listener (I fall somewhere in between). 2 stars

'Take It Back' - Pink Floyd (Single)

Here is another single from Pink Floyd's 'The Division Bell', an album that is close to the hearts of quite a few fans of the group. The first single from the album was 'High Hopes', which has since become one of my favourite songs from the band, and while this song is still good, it unfortunately does not amount to the same grandeur that the first did. 'Take It Back' is a song that is dominated by David Gilmour, featuring his distinctive vocal style and guitar tones that feel as if they were snatched from 'The Wall'. There are some strong melodies here however, and as always, warm arrangements, coming in the form of nice vocal harmonies and guitar flourishes that flutter in the background. 'Take It Back' is featured here twice, once in the full album form, and a second time in the radio edition. Of course, soemone looking for a more fulfilled listen will probably not pay the radio edit a second visit, but there is also a nice live version of the old track 'Astronomy Domine' here, which is nice to hear Gilmour singing a track originally done by Syd Barrett. A nice single!

The second single off of The Division Bell (1994), 'Take It Back' is most definitely one of the best Pink Floyd songs from the Waters-less era. It holds a strong place in the hearts and minds of fans alike as a sort of revival point of the band.

In my opinion, this is an amazing single release. It has everything you would want from one: two different versions of a great song as well as a live version of a classic track (in this case 'Astronomy Domine' from their debut). Couple that with a simple-yet-sweet artsy album cover and it's a smashing hit.

The song itself it fantastic as well, not to mention marketable. It has great, floaty keyboards, and some awesome guitar and vocal work from Gilmour. It maintains a steady, quick riff, which is incredibly catchy in itself. The back-up vocalization is great too, got to give them kudos for not messing that one up.

In conclusion, a great song on a great release.
