3 stars I recognize that the "categorisation" of this band in term of musical label is slightly difficult. I would like to say that is the most accessible side of krautrock, alternating traditional pop folk music with bluesy rock and sophisticated psych-experimentations. All titles in "Road Trax" have been recorded during the glorious 70's. They are originally taken from three movie scores: Wim Wenders "Kings of the Roads" and Erwin Keusch's "Das Brot Des Backers" & "Soweit das Auge reicht". The first one stays the most popular and introduces the theme of "road movie" in Germany. In itself the movie is a little piece of collection for passionates, the music provides and excellent illustration of central ideas developed by the director: the solitude, travel, time, meeting and the existential sense of life. Very colourful, the soundtrack conciliates different moods and type of musics. "Suicide road" is for me the central composition of this compilation; it's also the leading theme in "Kings of the Roads"; a ravishing, plaintive and luminous bluesy instrumental piece with slide guitars (in the genre of Ry Cooder), saxophone and drums. The melody can be found very catching and evocative for forgotten, lost travellers. "Nine Feet Over The Tarmac" is a soft folkish tune without real interest despite its affective melody. "Silver Circles" is one of my favourite compositions (that's the reason why I've decided to attach the mp3 file to the page), a dense, dramatic, almost kraut-rocking composition. An interesting musical document for curious and collectors.
