VOYAGE 34 : REMIXES

Released about a year after "Voyage 34 parts 1 and 2", "Parts 3 and 4" were also originally packaged as a 12" EP, with one part occupying each side of the disc. In between these releases, the "Up the downstair" album appeared.

Part (or "phase") 3 brings in themes from parts 1 and 2, the recordings then being remixed by Astralasia. The mood is therefore very much geared towards trance music, with a slow disco beat and an even more ambient mood than on parts 1 and 2.

Phase 4 features future band member Richard Barbieri on synthesisers. The first part of the track is almost devoid of music as such, consisting almost exclusively of intermittent drug related narrative. When things do actually get going, which in reality is something which is not actually achieved here, we have a slow ambient guitar piece with atmospheric seagull like noises. The rhythm is pulsating rather than emphatic, the piece as a whole sounding like an extract from a film soundtrack.

When compared with parts 1 and 2, this is by far the weaker of the releases. It is now readily available as part of the "complete trip" album and is best acquired on that basis. On its own, this is not worth seeking out.
