Review by ZowieZiggy
PROG REVIEWER
2 stars Same sort of trap than the "Night & Day" EP. This method is rather annoying.

You get as much as THREE version of the same song. Out a total of . four. While you'll know that this song was originally written in 1995 (Rob Reed for the music and Christina for the lyrics). Dixit Rob Reed : "We rewrote the middle section and made it a bit more Magenta-ish".

It is true to say that "Speechless" is a good song but this EP could have been avoided, frankly. The single edit version sits on their recent compilation "The Singles". It is amazing to read Rob's declaration on their web-site : "a lot of Prog fans don't like buying singles, they'd much rather have the album format, and at 79 minutes we certainly have an albums worth of material. We can delete the singles now".

And the first thing that « Magenta » is doing, is to release an EP out of their compilation work.Quite incomprehensible and contradictory.

The second song of this EP is a re-worked version of "Anger". A bit longer and superior than the album version. But, again, this song is also featured in this format on the compilation "The Singles" (released in 2007 as well). Even if some of you might tell me that to be on this compilation, it should have been released as a single before (according to the title of this compil : "The Singles", I can only be against this marketing policy. Especially in the case of "Magenta" since they have had a similar approach already.

It is always pleasant to look to Christina in the video clip from ."Speechless". An hospital white décor and a classic play back from the band. She is a beautiful lady and her lightly red dressing is VERY attractive. But this clip can be downloaded from their web-site for free.

If you absolutely want to listen to the ultimate (?) "Speechless" version, the long and extended mix features a very nice, atmospheric middle-part combined with a brilliant guitar solo. Great song and the unique reason to get hold of this EP.

"Magenta" could have added a live version, an instrumental version, a metal-mix, a house mix etc.

Two stars. I am almost speechless about his release.

3 stars Yep, it's a trap. Too late for poor Marty to realize this dangerous situation. I confess that I was attracted here by Christina's name. I though that where she'll be, it can't be something bad. But I was wrong, so terribly wrong. Now I feel like being in grave danger, having something so useless. It's not so prog as I would like, but it's not pain in the a$$ too, it's just quite worthless of effort. Some amazon offers are simply ridiculous (wanna pay hundred bucks for this ltd. edition?).

3(-), but just because I like it. And I like it because it's quite a strong song. But don't expect prog. Live version is nice though.
