3 stars In 1982 BIJELO DUGME embarked on a tour across Bulgaria in order to mend the financial debts, so the label Jugoton decided to release two compilation LPs containing their singles.

The first one presents all singles issued during 1974/75, at the beginning of the band's career. It is very useful that this collection contains a handful of singles-only tracks, otherwise unavailable on LP albums. Therefore, in absence of long out-of-print 7" vinyls, one can put all of them together in a chronological listening order. These are particularly:

- premier examples of so-called "pastirski rok": "Top" (The Cannon), "Da sam pekar" (If I Were a Baker) and "Da mi je znati koji joj je vrag" (I Wish I Knew What the Hell Was Wrong With Her);

- blues, acoustic ballad and funk elements of respectively: "Ove ću noći naći blues" (I'll Find the Blues Tonight), "Ima neka tajna veza" (There Are Secret Ties That Bind) and "I kad prođe sve pjevat ću i tad" (I'll Sing Even When Everything's Gone);

- comedy-rock songs having funny or childish lyrics: "Glavni junak jedne knjige" (The Main Character of a Book) and "Bila mama Kukunka, bio tata Taranta" (Once Upon a Time There Were Mama Kukunka and Papa Taranta).

You will not find any worthy prog moments on this compilation, but it is an interesting and very useful collection of early singles of BIJELO DUGME.

PERSONAL RATING: 4,5/5

P.A. RATING: 3/5
