4 stars A mix between Omega Massif and Explosions in the sky. North's Ruins Ep is completely instrumental, with some doomy influences, but with an easy access post rock edge. Crushing drop D chords turn to flying major scale arpeggios within seconds, these songs cover a whole range of sounds and emotions.

The Ep starts The black gate, full throttle post metal song, absolutely bone crushing! But the songs transitions quickly into Ethereal uncovering which sounds just like a happy Doom metal song to me (Yes, it exists), and if you cant tell by my description, as the EP moves on, the songs get less and less brutal, until most of the songs are comprised of mournful delayed guitars, and when this lowest of low part is hit, the music starts taking a turn for more heavier once again. My only complaint is that the songs are just too short to climax properly, in other words they're a bit rushed. The longest song Ruins is only six minutes long, which is very non post metal, thankfully most of the songs develop pretty well with the time given to them, and though they may feel to fast, all in all this collection of songs isn't bad.

My favorite part about this young band is their choice of influences. You got Doomy power chords, Isis like lead lines, Neurosis Drumming, and EITS twin guitar arpeggios. I'm also really excited to hear what the keyboards and vocals will do with this band on their full length album that will hopefully come out this summer.
