Review by Greger
PROG REVIEWER
3 stars "Circle" is the fourth album from the Dutch band CLIFFHANGER. It's released in March 2001, eight years after the band was formed. CLIFFHGANGER's music is commercial neo-progressive rock with catchy melodies. They are quite close to GENESIS, IQ and MARILLION but sometimes they're even reminiscent to more complex bands such as KING CRIMSON, VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR and YES. There are lots of instrumental passages, but although the song writing is very good it doesn't rise above the average progressive rock songs of today and the music therefore gets too mainstream. But despite this there are lots of good songs on this album, and if all the song were as good as "The Birthday Party" I would've given this CD a top rating.
