SPECIAL COLLABORATOR Honorary Collaborator
4 stars Torture Garden was recorded in 1989, and consists of some songs from Naked City album, so it's a kind of compilation.

If you listened Naked City first, I can say you will find similar mix of avant-jazz, proggy noises and some old fashioned movie soundtrack melodies there as well.

The main difference is atmosphere. Torture Garden isn't only longer ( 42 miniatures, Naked City has 26), but there are different order of miniatures, and there are no pauses between songs as well. Combined with more heavy, noisy, darker sound, Torture Garden is similar album, but with much more depressive atmosphere.

If Naked City has plenty of bright moments, especially in versions of old movie songs, or even Masada-style kletzmer melodies, Torture Garden is more downtown music. But generaly, both albums are stylisticaly similar. I prefer Naked City as masterpiece, but Torture Garden is absolutely attractive work.

Please, just note, that music (on both albums) are some mix of avant-jazz-metal-noise. So, it's not for every taste. But fans of that music will receive the gem!
