3 stars Being & Time is a project set up by a Japanese duo, and their self-titled album is their first effort.

Cold synths and keyboards dominate the the efforts on this CD, while programmed heavy drum beats sets up the rhythmic foundation in a pretty neat manner. The latter a tad more sterile than what the real thing provides, but better utilized on this occasion than many others I know of.

Melodic guitar soloing and wandering clean guitar patterns are the remaining elements, as well as a few select samples. And in style this pretty much adds up to a classic neo-progressive sound - albeit with a distinctly colder mood. A few ventures feature distorted guitar riffs and more of a fusion-tinged territory, but by and large an album that should appeal to fans of Neo this one.

Promising debut.
