4 stars This split K7 published on the promising independant label Mannequin explores the territories of minimal electro's fantasies / dark waves' ultra hypnotic / goth-like menacing sound textures. In this album Alessandro Adriani (the man behind newclear waves) provides a serie of cinematic ambient minimal pieces dominated by magnetic hypno electro pulses and dream pop synth waves. Punctual narratives and vocal harmonies appear into the mix. If the Rain of Iron and Fire starts the album with a wide range of super emotional / hauntingly gloomy lo-fi sound pictures, the rest of the album reaches a sophisticated catchy and ghostly mechanical electro pop atmosphere. The Newclear Waves' section features a slightly abstract and conceptual mix of moods featuring evolving tripped out soundscapes impregnated by incessant micro-loops, oppressive dreamlike tonalities surrounding by robotic electro-driven beats. The ensemble totally flows into our brain and give to the listener the resources to explore the multidimensional aspects of the psychic reality. A lysergic psych-out minimal effort which achieves to conciliate weirdly pop-ish electronics with the hazy ambient drift. Under their very own and typical musical signature, Opus Finis carries on the path of electro-ritually goth abstractions. With a collection of intriguing sounds / timbres and cryptic freaked out moments this split album pushes away the frontiers of the subterranean electronic underground. Way recommended for fans of Kraftwerk, New order, Asmus Tietchens (...)
