3 stars A brief but valuable document for fans

"Volumen Plus" is a short DVD sequel to Bjork's "Volumen" video collection, released in late 2002 and covering her video work from 1998-2002. The seven videos are from Homogenic, Vespertine, and a couple of non-album tracks. Bjork's videos, especially the later ones, are visual feasts for the eyes. With her budget and access to production she is able to craft about anything she can imagine, and she has a knack for the art which is comparable to Peter Gabriel. The audio and video quality of the release is stunning even a decade on. The tracks from Vespertine in particular are bold and creative in their aim to express sexuality, the visuals are often astonishing. The music is also great coming from a most fruitful period of her career. My problem with conceptual videos is a personal one at this point but I'll mention it anyway: when I have a rare window of opportunity to put on some music video under ideal circumstances, I want to see live performance. Watching musicians play is simply miles above watching them act and lip-sync, even with great visuals. Nevertheless, this DVD is a fine document and the material is good so I do recommend it to Bjork fans. She has done an amazing job of chronicling her visual career with her "Archive DVD Series." Beyond videos she has a great assortment of live shows in high quality from throughout the years.
