3 stars Demolition is the debut full-length studio album by American thrash metal act Vektor. The album was independently released in 2006. Thereīs some dispute over the fact if this is actually considered a demo or a studio album, but the band seem to consider Demolition a demo.

The music on the album is strongly influenced by the German thrash metal triumvirate of Kreator, Sodom and Destruction. Add to that a particularly strong influence from the progressive/ technical thrash metal attack of Voivod and early Watchtower and youīre just about there. Calling the music on Demolition progressive thrash metal wouldnīt be far off the mark, but donīt think this is the kind of album thatīs mared by over-excessive technical playing. Rather itīs a powerful and aggressive thrash metal album with progressive elements.

The songs on the album are quite adventurous and most are pretty long ( maybe a bit too long actually). Moonbase with its 12:55 minutes playing time is the longest track on the album. The high pitched raw vocals might turn-off a few people and I canīt say that I find them particularly well sounding either. They are tolerable once you get into the album and have given it a few spins, but upon first listen itīs safe to say I wasnīt impressed. Itīs of course an aquired taste.

Demolition is a good and sometimes even great debut album by Vektor with room for improvement. Their influences shine through just a bit too much for my taste and the raw production and too processed high pitched vocals also drag my rating down a bit. On the other hand thereīs nothing wrong with their fierce energy or their adventurous approach to songwriting and those are really important things in my book too. So I guess a 3 star rating is warranted.
