SPECIAL COLLABORATOR Honorary Collaborator
3 stars Not much is known around the timeline of this under-the-radar Argentinian band from Rosario, which was formed in 1979.Danae had a good live activity during the 80's, always remaining behind the scenes but building a cult fame through the years. The quartet of guitarists Pablo and Marcelo Lopez, bassist Willi Torres and drummer Sergio Schegtel would only record a self-titled album at the Studios of Del Camote Records in their homecity between February and September 2004 and release it independently the same year.

A very short work, almost each minute corresponds to each year of Danae's 25-year history, ''Danae'' offers an instrumental Heavy Rock, based on dual guitars and impressive bass/drums pounds. The band cites Rush, Yes, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin as its primary influences and this album definitely contains tons of late-70's RUSH references and LED ZEPPELIN vibes in the Hard Rockin' solos, but you could add also some touches of Fusion in the more technical lines of the album. The fact that the band decided to offer an album of less than 30 minutes is at least respectable, not getting through indulgent instrumental mannerisms, as all pieces contain dense and powerful Heavy Rock executed with passion and sheer energy.Strong ALEX LIFESON inspirations appear in the Power Rock grooves of this release, which is also characterized by emphatic solos, melodic runs and virtuosic grooves. The music is always dynamic, mostly fast and often pretty heavy with multiple mood changes in a limited time, while the bass work of Willi Torres shines through.

Solid, sincere and bombastic guitar-based Heavy Prog.A must have for all fans of RUSH, TILES and the likes, a couple of additional tracks wouldn't hurt.Recommended overall.
