3 stars Transcending Mortality is an progressive/power metal band from Australian releasing only one album to date, in 2006 named The Last Horizon. To tell you the truth I was very pleasent surprised, technical progressive metal with some power metal elements here and there, great atmosphere overall. Despite some negative reviews I've read here and there , to me is a great album where technical arrangements meets melodic ones in agreat manner. The voice of Mike Zoias is ok, not bad at all as other said, sometimes they remind me of Fates Warning, but the pieces are all ok, only 7 tracks , some of them long enough over 8 min to show us that they mean bussines in this field. They convinced me for sure, and I hope is not their last album. All pieces stand as good, not a weak moment, the drumer Matthew Shriffer is excellent , each time very sure of the instrument, but aswell the guitar parts are great. So, a pleasent album to me, worth for sure 3.5 for this album, great yet unnoticed prog metal .
