MANVANTARA

Second album named Manvantara issued in sommer of 2012 of this little known prog metal band from UK Linear Shere is for me a killer one in any aspect. I know aswell their debute and I was so so surprised, the instrumental sections were quite intresting but the voice was dreadfull. With this second offer things changed in better for sure, they had also almost 7 years to come with this second album. Some line up change, the bass player is replaced with Steve Woodcock in 2006 and aswell the second guitarist is gone Charlie Griffiths in 2008 to formed one of the leading abd well known bands from today haken. Linear Sphere gathered all the strenght he got and all the good ideas from all these silenced years since their debute from 2005 and puted in their best work so far and one of the best prog metal albums of last years for sure, at least for me Manvantara. What we have here is technical prog metal of the highest calibre with jazz fusion elements added in their sound, the result is killer, belive me, the musicianship is absolutly stunning not else. The voice aswell is much much better here then on first album, Jos Geron here sounds very confident in his vocal capabilities and has some really fantastic and powerful moments, in total contrast with what he offered on the dubute that robotic distorted vocal parts. The instrumental sections are killer, I like a lot the guitar of Martin Goulding how sounds , very fusion, very technical prog metal but keeping the sense of melody all through the album. Busy drums all the way, complex chops, excellent bass and chapman Stick lines, good atmospheric keyboards and good vocal arrangements, all in all a total winner in my book this kind of prog metal. Forte pieces, all, not a weak moment, but with a plus on opening track Origin, Cycle of Ages and Reset Realign, killer pieces. Something to add is that this is a concept album , in few words is about and is based around hindu astronomical period calendar. So finaly, all prog metal listners must discover this album and band, definetly one of the best in last years in this field, solid, catchy , technical, inventive and with all ingredinets to become something big in this filed for sure. Recommended and 4 stars for sure, maybe 4.5 stars in places, really awesome, totaly impressed by Manvantara. A combination between old Cynic, old Dream Theater and Spiral Architecht the result is Linear Sphere.
