4 stars "Hear them singing arias and fables"

Live In Japan was Lana Lane's first live album, recorded at a time when the band had released only three studio albums; Love Is An Illusion, Curious Goods, and Garden Of The Moon. Still, there was certainly no shortage of great material, and they could easily have made this a double album. The live energy of the band was bursting at the seams just like the dam on the front cover. The Japanese audience is very enthusiastic and this, of course, feeds the band with positive enthusiasm.

Admittedly, some of the band's greatest musical achievements were still ahead of them at this relatively early stage in their illustrious career, but they already had such classics as Through The Fire, Love Is An Illusion, Escher's Staircase, Under The Olive Tree, Symphony Of Angels, and the instrumental Garden Of The Moon, to name a few that made in onto this disc.

The best Lana Lane live release is the 10th Anniversary Concert DVD and CD which constitutes a much broader representation of the band's output. But Live In Japan is a nice complement.
