2 stars Enter The Night

I stumbled upon this digital single from Steve Hackett on Spotify recently. The A-side is 'Til These Eyes taken from the Beyond The Shrouded Horizon album and is a lovely acoustic guitar and vocal piece. The B-side is (a "radio mix" of) Enter The Night, an electric Rock number with a terrific sound that reminds of the 80's Hackett albums, particularly the very good Highly Strung. This latter song was new to me, but the original version of this song apparently appeared on the bonus disc that came with the special edition of Beyond The Shrouded Horizon (and I have only heard the single-disc version of that album).

None of the two tracks on this single can be said to be progressive, but they are both great songs with strong melodies, and they showcase very well Hackett's acoustic and electric guitar playing, his underrated vocals, and his song writing skills.

Probably a superfluous addition for anyone who owns the two-disc version of Beyond The Shrouded Horizon, but nonetheless a worthy single (apparently released for some charity).
