SPACE JUNGLE MANTRA

This songs were recorded at Roundhouse, London, when LAY LLAMAS had the honour to support GOAT on their Europe tour 2014. 4Zero Records just have released the album, where the title 'Space Jungle Mantra' hits the nail right on the head when trying to describe their music style. The band's masterminds Nicola Giunta and Gioele Valenti are born and raised in South Sicily, nearby the North African coast. The songs are certainly coloured by this as a consequence, and not without good reason they also self-promote their output as spacedelic-afro-kraut.

Normally - speaking of studio recordings - both musicians are caring for all required instruments amongst themselves. On live occasions though they are generally supported by like-minded musicians on drums, guitar and synthesizer. The kick-off represents the album title excellently, but is also dedicated to proceed the soundcheck while starting with some jungle sound impressions coming from the synthesizer. Drums and flute gradually intervene after some time and the band opens for a halting groove, coming close to a relaxed camel ride, at the latest when Giunta's intensive bass comes in.

I don't think somebody will object when I refer to Archaic Revival as another typical band reference. The song shows significant Africa rooted tribal rhythm, some relations to Robbi Robb's TRIBE AFTER TRIBE come into my mind. The hypnotic flow is typically krautrock adapted. The wah-wah drenched rhythm guitar supports the immense groove, the synthesizer imitates a didgeridoo and adds well put sireens. This appeals to me even better than on the studio album 'Ostro'.

Overall the songs are truely coming along like a mantra, the extended The Place Where We Come From Is The Place Where We're Going To sums it up finally - extraordinary space guitar performance by Matteo Pin, the transcendental attitude and looping flow, the CAN respectively NEU alike drumming, this all spiked with lively electronics ... they provide an atmosphere which is rare to find, very unique.
