SPECIAL COLLABORATOR Prog-Folk Team
3 stars Three years before the acclaimed "Angels of Peckham Rye", the WOOD DEMONS released this debut EP, which is what the tentative often do as a sort of "floater". However, "The Lost Domain" is, apart from the poor production, in no way demure, with three all out rockers out of 5 tracks, infused with varying degrees of the group's myriad other influences of which but one is prog rock. On the best numbers, they remind me of a long lived UK band JUMP, particularly on "All Alone in Istanbul", which does miss a minor opportunity to go a little Asia Minor on us. It is mysterious though, and along with the perhaps politically insensitive but luxuriously atmospheric ballad "Poor Traumatized You", prove that WOOD DEMONS are least likely to be relegated to the archivist's back pages, if they modulate just a titch, or more.
