Stramonio biography
The band started under the monicker TRILOGY SUITE during the year 1992. At that time the band worked on a repertoire of their own tracks with a music style ranging from Neoclassical Metal to melodic Hard Rock.

In 1994, after the band won the prestigious Italian music award, Ritmi Globali, they had the opportunity to go into the studio to record their first demo entitled "When Body Dies Soul Lives". This gave TRILOGY SUITE good exposure, especially in the specialized metal press. Unfortunately, soon after the entire rhythm section left the band, in order to pursue other interests.

Founding members Nicola Balliana (guitars), Luca De Lazzaro (keyboards) and Federico De Vescovi (vocals) decided then to go on under a different name and music style as they wanted to accomplish a sound with no limitations and compromises whatsoever. New members Cris Zanvettor and Roberto De Cesero completed the line-up on bass and drums respectively.

During February 1997 STRAMONIO was finally born and after one year of writing and live performances, the band recorded the demo-CD "Awake The Jester" which immediately raised great attention and interest in the Italian specialized press.

This demo gained the band the possibility to record, during the year 2000, their debut-album entitled "Seasons of Imagination" which got fantastic reviews both in Italy and abroad.

In the meanwhile the band played several shows in Italy (more than 50 in less than one year) and STRAMONIO acquired an excellent reputation for their extremely tight live shows and performances.

After the recording of a new demo entitled "Letters From Home", STRAMONIO raised the interest of Frontiers Records, which signed them to a worldwide multi album deal. "Our music ranges from Prog-Metal to Neoclassic Metal" says Nicola Balliana, "drawing inspiration from daily life and our soul in relation to the reality in which we live in". The result is a magnificent progressive metal album which blends rich and diverse influences into one recognizable and strong sound which constitutes the typical STRAMONIO trademark!

3 stars One of the lesser known prog metal acts coming from Italy is Stramonio with 3 albums released so far. The second album from 2002 named The mother of invention issued at Frontiers is probably considered their best and at same level with next one aswell very well recived by the prog metal fans. I particulary find this album to be their most acomplished work, where the musicianship is tight and compositions are quite decent in places even great. This is typical release for prog metal realm, where the guitars are dueling with the keyboards in a nice manner. Complicated yet melodical passages are all over the album, where listner can easely find that this band had potential in this field, somehow remaning in the shadow of other named from prog metal scene from Italy. Enjoyble from start to finish with high points on pieces like Desert night or Loose from a dam. Similar with lets say another respected band from this field Empty Tremor also from Italy. 3.5 stars for this one.

4 stars Stramonio news album is maybe not so brilliant as Season of Imagination or Mother Invention, but it becomes better each time.Songs are shorter and maybe more lineal, but melodies are great, production is perfect, drummer plays like a master, high pitched vocals are great and some guitar solos let to see a clear jazz-rock influence. A good album, sounds 100% Stramonio. Blondie cover "Call Me" ís fabulous and Bleme, Universe or The World that i´ve Drawn are great progressive songs!!

4 stars Stramonio second album it´s so good as their debut, but slightly different. Less symphonic stuff here, more funky groove and hard rock melodies. Production is more rude than Seasons of Imagination and singer sings high pitched but regullating his voice. Great vocals and great songs here, "Snow Crystal" is Stramonio´s better song ever for me.

4 stars Together with RHAPSODY, STRAMONIO is one of the best Prog Metal bands I've heard from Italy. Probably one of the best overall too! The six musicians are playing complex and highly technical progressive metal with lots of breaks and lengthy instrumental passages. Although the technical skills they have managed to create good melodies, strong hooks and memorable compositions.

The music is reminiscent to DREAM THEATER, EMPTY TREMOR, ICE AGE, RUSH and YES, and there are even some classical and jazz influences. But most of all they seem to be inspired by DREAM THEATER. Even the vocalist Frederico De Vescovi has a strong voice that is sometimes reminiscent to James LABRIE (DREAM THEATER) and André Matos (ANGRA).

Everything is very professional done: the production and the beautiful artwork painted by Luis Royo. There's actually nothing to complain about. But IF I should try to find something, it would be that they should try to develop their own style on their future albums.

This album is interesting from the first note to the last, and it's highly recommended to all fans of DREAM THEATER.
