3 stars What an impressive world by CRUSHING MY PALMS BETWEEN THE GLASS SHARDS YOU GAVE ME (aka CMPBTGSYGM).

Their latest album sounds veiled in an incredible dark collision of heavy post rock and dready electronika. Such an eccentric combination cannot be heard so easily and would be recognized as an innovative movement in another sense. The first shot "reducing the grain." tells you everything around the current CMPBTGSYGM, flooded with (con)fusion of electronic dissonance, guitar-oriented post-rock distortion, and beautiful tragic melody lines by the keyboard. This novel noble harmonization would remind you of a sort of similarity to a Japanese psychedelic feedback pioneer Les Rallizes D'nud's, dunno CMPBTGSYGM are following them though. And sounds partially like recent Ulver (at least for me). Quite unique but not unpleasant at all. You can be drenched in violent dissective sound cracks through the following track "individuals double-crossing or not, cry myself to sleep". Deep inorganic infernal soundquakes sound sarcastic but even lyrical and comfortable. For them to be simpler the soundscape is, to be better it may be. "to find a purpose in an ever absurd world" is also dry and withered, but melodic discharges in the middle phase are so elegant and essential enough to absorb you completely. Such a charming tip is one of their great viewpoints. After "waking up", a monotonous noisy interlude, "angels stuck in hell, forever is one of the flood." drives you into another crazy dimension. Magnificent sound dissonance gives you a wondrous impact. A mystic freeform sound / noise hotchpotch could really catch your inner mind strictly, regardless of kinda machinery monotone. Just like black water oozing through their sound cracks, this song will venomize you in an auditory manner.

Ha ha, a Finnish post rock mavericks CMPBTGSYGM have grown to be de...err...upgraded to another electronic noise champ.

3 stars Release #3 from the Finnish solo act CRUSHING MY PALMS BETWEEN THE GLASS SHARDS YOU GAVE ME is my first release reviewed from 2023! And what an adorable title for this release. Simply F.U.C.K! This artist also known as Zero seems to like short EP releases with the last one "Wake Up! A New Dawn Is Waiting for You" only barely exceeding 18 minutes.

F.U.C.K is slightly shorter and barely exceeds 17 minutes. This one features five tracks and continues the mix of post-rock, emoviolence, electronica, ambient and industrial noise. This release tamps down the screamo and black metal influences and opts for a more ethereal approach.

"Reducing The Grain" starts with a piano groove and evolves into a hypnotic electronic loop. "Individuals Double-Crossing or Not, Cry Myself to Sleep" starts off as a freaky power electronic track and then kind of remains in a hypnotic droning state with a few swirling effects on the lower range of the sound spectrum.

"To Find a Purpose in an Ever Absurd World" gets all aggro in a post-industrial way like an angry Throbbing Gristle with a power noise hiss. Nice production as it allows more ambient piano tinklings to interact with it. The crazy electro-grooves are indicative of some of the newer extreme subgenres of electronic music.

"Waking Up" is basically a 48-second hive of hornets effect in electronic form. "Angels Stuck In Hell, Forever Is One Of The Flood" is the longest track over 5 minutes and is basically noise electronica with a subdued melodic effect subdued in the background. Most will probably find this extremely annoying. It's OK but there's tons of noise electronica out there these days. Nothing really to latch onto.

I was highly impressed with CRUSHING's last EP with its inventive approach to post-rock that offered all kinds of interesting experiments on the way. This EP simply feels like a sampler for various modern electronic music effects. Not bad as i do like this kind of post-industrial power noise stuff but this release isn't anything to get excited about.

4 stars Following the rather pointless debut EP of mindless emoviolence meets noisecore that only lasted over five minutes and never really developed into anything, the Finnish artist Zero and his solo project CRUSHING MY PALMS BETWEEN THE GLASS SHARDS YOU GAVE ME decided to get serious and focus on creating music that's actually interesting.

While only seemingly interested in short EPs, this second offering WAKE UP! A NEW DAWN IS WAITING FOR YOU is a single track release but just squeaks over the 18-minute mark. A remarkable improvement in every possible way CRUSHING dude decided to uses the post-rock paradigm as the underpinning of his strange mix of screamo, noisecore, electronica and atmospheric black metal.

For something categorized in the post-rock world, CRUSHING amazingly maintains that genre as the dominant one even though this an aggressive tune with screamo vocal bombast projected itself from a black metal guitar din. Like most post-rock there is a cyclical groove that is the underpinning throughout the entirety of this EP but CRUSHING is keen to decorate with all kinds of tone, timbres and dynamics.

The electronic intro builds into an aggressive frenzy but then a little pause allows the cyclical groove to usher in a new stylistic approach as the post-rock takes on the guise of a noisy psychedelic rock with black metal guitar slowly creeping back into the main framework. The bass is particularly active with cool grooves until finally blastbeat drumming and atmospheric cloud coverings offering a cooling approach to the buzzsaw black metal guitar.

Then once again all shifts into a beautiful piano roll with the same melodic groove of course until it becomes two piano parts totally unaccompanied by other sounds. An electronic scratching sound slowly creeps in and then everything changes again! This approach is continued through the entire track with the basic gist of lush mellow segments alternating with bone crushing heaviness. Zero proves to be an excellent guitarist, bassist and drummer.

The music is rather dramatic and towards the end builds and builds and builds a satisfying climactic ending that goes out with some wickedly cool electronic weirdness! All in all this is a brilliant little EP that doesn't get too complex but offers a nice easy ride with many layers of sound effects in synergy to create an excellent post-rock journey that takes on a whole album's worth of ideas and truncates them into an 18-minute bombshell.

— First review of this album —
2 stars The crazy artist name CRUSHING MY PALMS BETWEEN THE GLASS SHARDS YOU GAVE ME is the one-man project of the Finnish musician Zero and is the perfect moniker within the over-the-top band name int he world of post-rock. Indeed this artist has become known for crafting an interesting fusionary effect in the context of post-rock.

This self-titled EP was CRUSHING's debut and only featured four really short tracks that just barely clocked in over 5 minutes playing time. No traces of post-rock on this one. This one is primarily tagged as emoviolence and noisecore with traces of screamo and math rock. It's pretty much a bantering mess of noise on this one though.

There's honestly nothing on here really to get excited about. It's like a few power chords bantering with excessive screaming and noisy buzzing surrounding the guitar stomps. It starts off with some spoken word samples in the vein of Godspeed You! Black Emperor along with some trippy ambient backdrop on the opening "Fuck You! Fuck You! Fuck You! I Hate You So Fucking Much" but then breaks into a heavy guitar and bass groove.

Basically track one is a two minute intro but then the middle two tracks are less than a minute each and pretty much continue the heavy punkish guitar style augmented by freaky atmospheres and screamo wails from beneath the din. Almost black metal like actually. The whole thing is over as quickly as it ends and never really goes anywhere. This little EP is fun for a five minute ride but ultimately seems pointless. CRUSHING Zero dude would do better.

4 stars Cannot help saying they are always kiddin' and the album is crazy good. A promising post-punk / post-rock grandeur CRUSHING MY PALMS BETWEEN THE GLASS SHARDS YOU GAVE ME (CMPbtGSYGM), who have already released the self-titled ep last summer, finally gives the audience such a freakout courageous shout in the beginning of this year. "Wake Up! A New Dawn Is Waiting for You.", which title should be quite appropriate for this mysterious peevish project, consists of only one long jack-in-the-box-ish suite featuring colourful appearances and wonderful developments from the start until the end.

The first silky acoustic calmness makes us expect something weird and horrible, and it's just true. Loud dissonant atmosphere like a sandstorm on a burning desert attacks us immediately. What an impression their energetic sound explosion is. Decent bluesy rock movements blended with quirky electronika is also magical. The middle phase, mystic keyboard distortion in another dimension, is not only beautiful but also charming. Sounds like we get hallucinated and fall into trance by a magical agent. Their powerful musical reactivation in the latter part, one of my favourite moments in this creation, encourages the audience so badly. Repetitive bombastic guitar-oriented stimulation along with lyrical and rigid drumming should be addictive and bewitching. We could be immersed in catastrophic piano delicacy following that. And finally punkish electronic blowouts upon the last run completely tighten us up.

Oh yes, we need to keep listening to this sheer insanity WITHOUT breathing at all. Let me say what CMPbtGSYGM will do for us from now on. Sweet, isn't it?
