Starbreaker biography
Formed in late 2004, STARBREAKER is a veritable supergroup featuring Tony Harnell (TNT) on vocals, Magnus Karlsson (RUSSELL ALLEN/JORN LANDE, LAST TRIBE, MIDNIGHT SUN) on guitars, Fabrizio Grossi (STEVE VAI) on bass, and John Macaluso (ARK, MCM, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, RIOT, TNT, POWERMAD) on drums. Playing technically proficient power metal with a strong progressive leaning, the band has released their debut album through Italian label Frontiers Records.
The album clearly demonstrates the musicians' frightening skills which, while clearly displayed, never interfere with the superb songwriting. The performances are obviously passionate and well-executed, the stellar production only adding to the in-your-face feel of their music. Singer Harnell and drummer Macaluso played together in TNT in the past (on their gold album "Realized Fantasies"), furthering the comfortable environment in which the band members produced such memorable music.
STARBREAKER's self-titled debut album is highly recommended to power metal fans looking for something more progressive and original-sounding. Despite being named after a JUDAS PRIEST song, there's nothing derivative about these guys! Well worth checking out!

Why this artist must be listed in www.progarchives.com :
They fall under the same general category as progressive power metal bands such as Kamelot and Pagan's Mind, possibly even more progressive and technical than most of those acts.

Starbreaker Progressive Metal

Review by jikai55

4 stars Not terribly progressive, but a decent metal album. The material varies between heaviness flowing from reminding me of Redemption type album, and also features a few slower songs. The vocals are all clean by Tony Harnell, and are one of the strong points of the album. The rest of the band is very good too, although it seems like they don't get the chance to show off as much as I would have liked to see them -- they're all apparently talented musicians. My favorite tracks on this album are Lies, Dragonfly, and Days of Confusion.

A solid metal album.

3 stars In my opinion this a good album of melodic metal (with some touch of progressive, here and there). These musicians show us in their different proyects all their category as musicians (a little less Fabrzio Grossi, he's better known as producer) always I have enjoyed the Macaluso's drums performance, specially with "Ark", he's awesome and his technique is almost perfect, also Harnell's performance is pretty good during the album and what can I say about Magnus Karlsson, is simply a wonderfull musician. I love the proyect called "Allen/Lande - The Battle", between him and Russell Allen (Symphony X) and Jörn Lande (Jorn, ex-Masterplan, ex-Ark, ex-Millenium, ex-Beyond Twilight among others). In that album, Karlsson show all his skills as music player as composer, he's amazing. I recommend to listen that work (specially for melodic rock lovers), is excelent.

Well, this work (Starbreaker's one) is a good excuse to listen great performers playing good tunes and rhythms in a terrific record in general terms.
