Dreamworld biography
Founded in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany in 1980

DREAMWORLD is the project of Klaus and Rolf Fichter, two multi-instrumentalists from Germany. They were leaders of YATHA SIDHRA whose 1972 album "Meditation Mass" made an impact. In 1980 DREAMWORLD released "On Flight to the Light" and stated that the music "expresses a deep sensibility for fundamental human desires such as warmth, tenderness, happiness and love. DREAMWORLD wants to uncover beautiful things in ever-changing variations".

The musicians consist of Klaus FICHTER on vocals, electronic drums, congas, cymbals, gong, synthesizer, and guitar, and Rolf FICHTER on vocals, synthesizer, mellotron, vibraphone, flute, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and bass. The tracks on the album range from acoustic vibrations to shimmering organ phrases. The flute drifts in over a wind effect, and dreamy piano and spacey synths form an ambient soundscape. There is even a four part symphony to close the album.

DREAMWORLD should appeal to the Krautrock fanbase with ethereal tranquil textures.

3 stars After Yatha Sidhra totally dissappeared from the music scene, one could wonder what the Fichter brothers were dealing with.Answer came at the dawn of the 80's, when they returned as a duo under the name of Dreamworld.Rolf Fichter was known as an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, but his brother Karl had also developed his skills, now playing keyboards and guitar besides his usual spot behind the drum kit.Dreamworld made their debut in 1980 on Vertigo with the album ''On flight to the light''.

Short opener ''Ways of love'' was not something you should expect from former Yatha Sidhra musicians, having a certain PINK FLOYD aura with a hypnotic, Space/Psych Rock sound and very GLIMOUR-like guitar vibe on the solos with some sneezy vocals thrown in.On the contrary, the 10-min. ''Beneath silence and storm'' sounds like a lost YATHA SIDHRA piece, which still retains some of the PINK FLOYD mood, but the narcotic acoustic lines over the dreamy synth notes and the use of flute are coming straight out of the Fichters' past. After the middle the Kraut-oriented jam on electronics and organ offers a kinky, psychedelic atmosphere.''Summer days'' is another suprise, a mix of Kraut Rock, Lounge Music and Psychedelic Rock with interesting flute work but some bland vocals as well. Was this track recorded live, because something like an audience can be heard in the background, or these were only some sound effects, who knows. The 20-min. ''Dreamworld's symphony'' has nothing to do with a symphony actually. This is some sort of standard Kraut Rock with emphasis on electronic soundscapes, filled with sound effects, percussion and atonal piano lines, having obvious psychedelic orientations and becoming a jam monster, when electric guitar and organ jump in.An interruption will lead to an acoustic outro with acoustic lines and mellow flutes in yet another YATHA SIDHRA reminder.

Cool mix of Electronic Music, psychedelic jams, PINK FLOYD tendencies and light Space Rock.Beautiful album for relaxing or making trippy dreams.Recommended.

3 stars DREAMWORLD is the project of Klaus and Rolf Fichter, two brothers who are multi- instrumentalists. You may remember them as the leaders of the band YATHA SIDHRA who put out a significant album called "Meditation Mass" back in 1972. Well they played in different groups after that then decided to create their own music in 1980 calling their band DREAMWORLD. Here's a quote from them about their music: "We think that our music expresses a deep sensibility for fundamental human desires auch as warmth-tenderness- happiness and love. DREAMWORLD wants to uncover beautiful things in ever-changing variations". So like "Meditation Mass" this is very laid back but more modern of course. There are sections I like much more than their previous project but also passages that i'd like to forget. The singing and lyrics are below average in my opinion but we get some really good instrumental sections.

"Ways Of Love" features acoustic guitar, bass and light drums before the keys and vocals join in. Electric guitar and organ 3 minutes in to end it. "Beneath Silence And Storm" is divided into 3 parts. "Part I" opens with strummed guitar and wind as flute comes in. Great sound here. Vocals before 3 minutes. "Part II" opens with piano as drums and spacey synths take over a minute in. Organ joins in too as we get that classic Krautrock flavour. Nice. Spacey sounds swoosh in late. "Summerdays" opens with birds chirping as this trippy beat comes in. Flute after a minute. Vocals 2 minutes in. It's not the best tune on here. "Dreamworld's Symphony" is a 4 part suite to end it.

"Introduction" has these light keys as flute comes in followed by synths and percussion-like sounds. "Between Trees And Oiseaux" has some harmonica in it with bass, percussion and keys. Vocals after 2 1/2 minutes. "Un Reve se Realise" sounds like SANTANA early with all the drums and percussion. I really like the drumming after 3 minutes. Electric guitar before 4 minutes. Vocals and organ 6 minutes to the end. Good song. "Endless Tenderness" has this laid back beat with acoustic guitar, keys and flute.Vocals 3 minutes in.

Very much a hit and miss affair for me but well worth 3 stars. It's better than I thought it would be.
