Silvester Anfang biography
An evil, demonic free folk / "acid" rock collective coming from Belgium. Albums such as Echte Vlaamse Geiten (2007), Satanische Vrede (2006) reveal mesmerizing, absolutely weird loops & drones, dark psychedelic improvisations and bluesy-kraut epics. In some aspects, their music can be considered as an original combination between the funeral & aggressive heavy krautrock of German Oak, the primitive, pastoral folk of the first Amon Duul or Dom and the hypnotic dark ambient of Aethenor. A macabre, neo krautrock celebration! The band collaborated with the American folk guitarist Jack Rose (also known for his mantra, abstract, droning acoustic recordings under the name Pelt).

3 stars A terrific acid dark space veiled in supra-exaggerated depressive improvisation.

From the beginning of "Mijn Vader Was Een Wolf En Mijn Moeder Was Een Hoer", improvised musical dread flooded with guitar-based lazy, crazy, fuzzy, sound-anatomical strategies. Sometimes felt impressive to get drenched in fragile and sensitive synthesizer stardust really but basically deformed irreversible explosive phrase fracture should take roots strictly. Sounds like a serious patient's death cry or a beast's low-pitched howling. This weirdness reminds me of the same vein like Egypt Is The Magick # or No-Neck Blues Band around 2000. The last distortion in this stuff should be our heart attack that gives us serious pain.

Via another longer track "Konfituur Voor De Satanjeugd" we can feel ethnic tribalism filled with downtempo percussive funeral procession. Guess they might have been pretty inspired by black-magical sacrifice ritual somewhere in the world, and their acid improvisation digested this inspiration perfectly, let me say. Deep, repetitive or convoluted walls of sound where some prohibited dogma be alive would invade via our ears and vaporize our brain. The freakout music commune might launch sound variations via various apparatus as they want, I guess. And music / freakout freedom as above is such a dark Fantasia we can say.

Sensational architecture produced with crystallized percussive synthesizer sediment would save us a bit, but we will get immersed in the real infernal dark matter created by the black commune. Not long for us, their "three-quarter hour" should be.

3 stars All roads (produced with instruments by them) lead to where?

This album drenched in terribly fuzzy, cranky barbarism should be crystallized with SYLVESTER ANFANG's positive intention for presenting Devil's whispers. Such a doomed atmosphere sounds like the Satan's critical shot in a hysterical manner. There is no clear, clean essence but definite Krautrock-ish confusing maze trauma as if a crazy elder would walk around awkwardly. Yes there is no smooth melody like a water stream nor breath of country air for giving happiness to everyone but horrible negative electro-feedback and magnificent magnetic spiritual concentration.

On the contrary, their soundscape could be felt not as the Satanic Majesty itself but a beastie howl for flattering the Satan, I suggest. Repetitive, convoluted electronic persistence with blurred spelling voices here and there via this album should be enough expressive. E.g. "Het Zilte Nat" is highlighted by simple but matured electronic foggy movements ... namely, some tribute matters for Satanic agents be meant. Something of regret or sorrow can be heard in such a hard-edged electric guitar waterfall, and this unexpressed texture notifies me of sinful echoes created by them.

So ... let me say at last. Love them, very immersing.

4 stars Astonishing experimental folk / neo-kraurock manifesation! Coming from Belgium this band is found of themes based on the occult, mysticism and dark philosophies. This band is definitely non conformist, delivering an ensemble of doomy introspective ambiences, fuzzed out guitars and primitive semi-folk epic improvisations. The atmosphere is really weird, bizarre, and gorgeously infiltrated by an ancient evil. "Demonische Agricultuur" culminates the debates with an "insolent" creepy ambience, featuring ultra lugubrious percussive scintillations, dark drones and e-guitar noises. The last track is a deadly, droney, pastoral epic song with monotonous acoustic strings, percussions, doom like bass and voices. The rest is so intriguing and weird at the same time, always really artisanal, primitive. This band has something in common with 70's krautrock obscurities as Zweisten (for the experimental attitude), Dom and the first Amon Duul (for the acid folk side) and German Oak (fro the dark, heavy soul). kraut-folk meets funeral procession, A Brilliant, avant garde psychedelic work! This is essential for fans of "dark ambient" and early kraut experimentations.
Thanks to Philippe Blache for the artist addition.
