Ovum biography
OVUM is a four piece instrumental post rock band hailing from Tokyo, Japan. The band was formed in 2006 by Norikazu Chiba (guitar, keyboard), Yosuke Jinnouchi (guitar), Shunsuke Onoyama (bass) and Yu Tokuda (drums) and has been playing since.

They describe their music as "the pursuit of universal beauty such as the sweetest of melodies and harmony, which may sound classical". On May 2007 they released their first EP entitled "Under the Lost" on Lost Records which featured only four songs and on April 2008 they released their first full length entitled "Microcosmos" on XTAL Records.

4 stars I'll try to be short and informative as much as possible here. OVUM are from Japan, and they sort of 'brand new MONO', if you know what I'm talking about. But instead of drone/climax sections of their more popular and better known landmates OVUM took ambient soundscapes and - attention, this is something! - groovy fusion-like rhythm-section! I mean this Post-Rock is really GROOVY, it has that jazzy feeling of 'knock-your-head, tap-your-shoe' along with the music, and despite the fact that some songs are too much like anothers (I'd prefer a shorter album to be honest), OVUM deserve to be noticed and heard. My favourite ones are 'Brilliant Lies' and 'Reflections' (the grooviest thing here!), and such example of 'MONO goes Fusion' is one of the most fresh-sounding and professional albums I heard this year so far. Yep, it's derivative, but just relax and enjoy the whole stuff. 3.5 stars and recommended!
Thanks to chamberry for the artist addition.
