Ahkmed biography
As a three-piece outfit by John-Paul 'Popey' Caligiuri (drums, voices), Carlo Iacovino (guitars), and Dan McNamara (bass), AHKMED were born in Melbourne, Australia in 1998. With the special mission to spread their fuzzy and swirling space rock over the world, they got influenced by diverse heavy-psych styles and bands - Space Rock (Hawkwind), Heavy/Stoner Metal (Kyuss, Black Sabbath), Post Rock (Mogwai), Garage Punk (The Stooges, Hellacopters), Alternative Rock (Fu Manchu), etc. - and tried to push their original mellow and ambient soundscapes in front of the foundation.

Exploring their capabilities through releasing 3 EPs and a compilation, they at last came into bloom with the debut album 'Distance' in 2009.

4 stars Like an alcoholic or anti-histaminic ambient music.

This revolutionary rolling-stone musical style is also understandable as a dark ambience I consider. Fuzzy and Krautish bass' and, laidback and trailing guitar's sounds are very impressive and can let us listeners overpaint into the 'wall'. Hm, as it is said, this work is full of heavy footsteps with Indo flavour by the rhythm section, eerie spelling voices, plus droning, trailing, lazy guitar solo tinged with some tragic view - as a rollercoaster goin' through a dark tunnel of 'sound needles', like this album sleeve.

A fuzzy bass also plays like a 'needle' star and by them already we listeners should be bloody and tainted with dark black coloured soot. Floating psychedelia can go ahead with its completely absorbed mind into our brain.

On the next step, raindrops represented by laidback but rhythm-changeable guitar and bass sounds are around us - hypnotically garage / stoner ones can let us drown in the salt lake or muddy water. 'Quiet paranoid' or 'Calm crisis' we can express about some parts of this work. Or, another part seems to be 'the wake of the flood'. Big waves come here again and again, and absorb listeners completely.

Very interesting and 'nouveau' psychedelia I feel. Highly recommended.

Thanks to DamoXt7942 for the artist addition.
