Myxomatosis biography
MYXOMATOSIS formed in September 2002, Montreal (Canada), when drummer Oliver Laroche, guitarist Marc Papillon, singer Alexandre Pelletier and bassist Simon Brault met together for the first time as musicians. The members met in the music halls of college, where they began to write music and play together. Through several years of compositions, creative arguments and living together, the band finally found their own in the world of progressive metal, storming the Quebec progressive scene and receiving nation wide attention.

The band released their first album, self titled Myxomatosis on the 28th of March, 2009, to much critical acclaim, and is available for free download on their homepage. This album was a self funded project, and was recorded, produced, mixed and released without the help of a record company. This album is filled with haunting guitar work, brilliant compositions and epic rhythmic work.

The band's sound is very similar to TOOL and DREAM THEATER, and the band has received obvious influence from these two groups. I would highly recommend this band to anyone who enjoys progressive metal, or those two artists in particular.

Myxomatosis Progressive Metal

Review by toroddfuglesteg

3 stars The one and only album from this Canadian band....... so far.

Their brand of progressive metal is not the one I am used to and I have to admit I have no bands to compare them to. Neither did the band come up with any bands to compare this music with in their interview. But one band they cannot be compared too is Dream Theater. The music on this album is a blend of very technical prog metal and some atmospheric alternative rock. Their songs changes between an almost ambient landscape and full force heavy slabs of technical, hardcore like ultra heavy metal pieces. The mix of melodies and blasting are the trademark of this band. And to a large extent, they probably sounds like Rush would had sounded like if they had started out today. For all I know, Myxomatosis is the new Rush.

There is no doubts this band has a great deal of ability. They sounds as tight as a duck's lower back. The lack of some killer tracks is hurting this album a bit. But this being a debut album, they have every reasons to be proud of this album. Knot the name of this band down on your list of bands to watch in the future.
