Coala Pascal biography
Coala Pascal is Ukrainian post-rock band, founded in May 18,2007. During their first concerts, they still didn't chose band's name. All musicians play in other bands/projects, but Coala Pascal is their place for experimentation. In their music musicians are mixing nu.jazz, ambient electronics and post-rock. Light, down tempo compositions with jazzy piano, atmospheric guitars and relaxed rhythm section are combined with noise electronics, aggressive bass attacks and overloaded guitar interplay.

Coala Pascal are:

Max Savenko - bass
Petro Trotz - drums
Andrey Bludov - guitar
Ivan Kanivets - guitar, programming, keyboards

Coala Pascal Post Rock/Math rock

Review by Macubert

4 stars These days, the world of music, has many instrumental bands to show you. Coala Pascal, for me, is the reason why I started listen to this kind of music. I think, that, CP is not just an instrumental band; is a band with musicians who know the way to make sounds by the mixing of everything. All the songs of this EP, has a decoration of great synth sounds, and melodies that makes a really psychedelic feeling get married with a bright feeling. Atmospheric, post and art rock written by a young and bold band. But there is something else that makes this album so unique; the photo cover. This photo is like some jazz, or psychedelic, or electronic album. Is so beautiful. My rating is 5 stars, but is not really a masterpiece; is a wonderful work.

4 stars This Ukrainian band's debut EP is nice and different work. I am listening to many post-rock releases, and can seriously confirm, that 90% of them are less or more successful variations of once found formula. And it's a reason why even good played ,but far from original , music couldn't attract listener.

Exceptions exist, and it's always a nice feeling, when you find another one. So - this young band from Kyiv is such exception for me. Don't expect masterpiece, I'm speaking about different sound, fresh components and really successful mix of elements in their music. But it is not so small thing, believe me!

First of all, this recording's music is clever and well balanced mix of post rock, ambient sound, electronics, borrowed from Squarepusher, and nu.jazz touches, influenced by Nordic musicians, as Nils Petter Molvaer. All music is still mostly post-rock, but all elements mentioned above, are strongly important in band's sound. Some separate moments are almost excellent!

Deeper sound development, ideas concentration and stronger concept - and their next work could be really great! But even this debut is really more interesting than many of post-rock releases I heard during few last years.

Recommended for post-rock fans, a bit bored and searching on new trends. By the way, this release could be downloaded for free from band's site.

My rating is 3,5, rounded to 4.

Thanks to snobb for the artist addition.
