Udus biography
Udus is avant/free jazz/prog trio, founded by ZU sax player Luca Mai as his side project with two musicians from Italian avant-punk band NEO - Antonio Zitarelli (drums) and Manlio Maresca (guitar) (later guitarist Stefano Ferrian of Psychofagist became a member as well). Band plays explosive high energy punk-jazz-avant music full of baritone sax improv soloing. The only band's album DooMooD was released in 2007 on FromSCRATCH label.

3 stars This only Udus album has some similarities with Black Engine's the only release (up to time). Both albums are released in 2007, and both are based on Zu sax player Luca Mai ecstatic sax work.

Main difference between both projects/albums is line-ups. If Black Engine is nothing but Zu plus guest guitarist, Udus is just Zu sax player Luca Mai plus Italian hardcore-punk scene's drummer and guitarist.

Musical differences between two releases are exactly what you can expect from line-up differences. If Black Engine is full bodied deep sound of Zu, filled with baritone sax soloings and metal guitar added, Udus music is more minimalist punk-core scratching guitars, dirty sound in a moments and more "indie" aesthetics.

Really interesting release for Zu/Italian avant prog scene fans. I still prefer Black Engine's music of two. Album's rating - 3+.

Thanks to snobb for the artist addition.
