Falls Of Rauros biography
FALL OF RAUROS is an experimental black metal band formed in the latter half of 2005 as a duo. The band quickly recorded their 30 minute long demo titled "Window Of The Eye" in early 2006 which featured four compositions, shortest one being just under 6 minutes. The band members, who remain partially anonymous, were interested in exploring a mix between black metal and neo-folk. The clash of the two styles also featured lengthy hypnotic passages that can often be mistaken for psychedelic rock.

The band quickly recruited two new members, making them a quartet, and self-released their full length studio album "Into The Archaic" in the middle of 2006. They followed up the debut with "Hail Wind And Hewn Oak" in 2008, released on Morbid Winter Records. Their third album "The Light That Dwells In Rotten Wood" was released in 2011 on Bindrune Recordings.

4 stars Atmospheric black metal bands of nature-loving anarchists from the USA aren't just limited to Wolves In the Throne Room - Falls of Rauros have also been plying their craft for quite some time, and The Light That Dwells In Rotten Wood is a masterful work. The album largely rests on the three longer pieces, with shorter folk-influenced interstitials acting as pallete-cleansers. With mild post-rock influences in its compositional approach, this is a credible entry to the stable of atmospheric black metal albums hailing from the USA; I don't think it hits any major creative breakthrough, but it's a good listen and a solid release in this particular style.
