Leech biography
LEECH is a heavy rock foursome from Estonia that consisted of musicians Erik NEUMAN(drums), Magnus ANDRE(bass), Ivo KOOPUUD(guitar) and Rainer PETERSON(vocals). They existed between 2000 and 2007. After two singles, "Disconnected" (2003) and "Powerfields" (2006), the band debuted in 2007 with their album "Tram-O-Gram". It turned out to be their final album as they disbanded shortly afterwards.

LEECH offers a puzzling mix of styles with vocals that are rooted in alt rock (Grunge) and instrumental parts with strong Rush influences. The band describes themselves as Progressive Metal but with more Rock then either Prog or Metal in the mix, they certainly sound far removed from what you'd generally expect from Prog Metal. Prog fans that indulge Grunge should take a look at the band's homesite where their releases are available as free downloads.

3 stars Metal from Estonia, with more twists and turns than an ancient backroad. That is what Leech serve on their full length debut album Tram-O-Gram, which is a highly mixed and chaotic affair in most aspects.

Metal is the dominating style on the album, with many visits to doom, grunge and stoner influenced segments; with Soundgarden and to some degree Black Sabbath as main influences. Some alternative and industrial leanings pop up from time to time as well, which makes me guess that these guys are familiar with artists such as Ministry and NIN too.

There's also a much more mellow side to these compositions though, with many segments seemingly more influenced by acts such as REM and Manic Street Preachers.

These highly different influences are then mixed into highly chaotic compositions, constantly evolving and changing but much too often also loosing their way. These guys are talented though, and with a better structure to their tunes this band could really start to go places.

Thanks to bonnek for the artist addition.
