Reign of the Architect biography
REIGN OF THE ARCHITECT are a progressive symphonic metal band formed in 2012 by Yuval KRAMER (guitars, AMASEFFER). They initially started as multinational studio project in October 2008 when KRAMER co-operated with Mexican drummer Mauricio BUSTAMANTE and a basic storyline written by singer Yotam 'Defiler' AVNI (PREY FOR NOTHING) and it was then that the album 'Rise', a sci-fi concept was created. The recordings started in March 2010, including a number of musicians such as Mike LePond (bass, SYMPHONY X), Joost VAN DEN BROEK (keyboards, AYREON, AFTER FOREVER), Assaf LEVY (guitars), Jeff Scott SOTO (vocals, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, JOURNEY, TALISMAN etc.).

On completion of the album, the music was taken on stage with ROTA as a 7-member band with 3 vocalists. They debuted on stage in June 2012 supporting SYMPHONY X in Tel Aviv, signing with TFA management, and in September they toured in Russia/Ukraine; since, they performed with acts such as THE FLOWER KINGS, PAIN OF SALVATION, ADROMEDA etc. January 2013 finds them signing to Pitch Black Records and also NY Extreme Management Group. 'Rise' was released in April 2013 and Hanan AVRAMOVICH (guitars, AMASEFFER) joined the band.

ROTA's sound is that of symphonic progressive metal, reminiscent of acts such as SYMPHONY X, AYREON and PAIN OF SALVATION, using sci-fi concepts and soundtracks, and blending mediterranean and latin music.

3 stars "Rise" is a concept album produced by the Israeli band REIGN OF THE ARCHITECT. The album is a musical extravaganza, and while listening you'll have the feeling that you're actually observing a musical or an opera.

The album is very diverse, from acoustic Folk to growl vocals, it has it all, and everything seems to fit perfectly to the story line. On the other hand, it's not an easy listener but as a Progressive Metal album, it's reasonable. The mix of vocals of Tom Gefen, Davidavi Dolev, Adva Kramer, Yotam Avni and of course Jeff Scot Soto, make the songs feel full and interesting. "We Must Retaliate" is a great example for that.

This is one of those albums that it's not really possible to describe with words. The only thing that was a little hard for me to listen was the fact that this album is so all over the place that sometimes it is hard to catch everything that's coming out of the speakers, because there's a lot going on. Nothing here you didn't listen to before.

In conclusion, fans of bands like PAIN OF SALVATION, KAMELOT and SYMPHONY X will really dig this, more traditional listeners will need to be very open minded about it. For me it's a 3 star maybe 3.5
