Dumb Waiter biography
Dumb Waiter is a 4-piece band from Richmond, Virginia. Their debut, "Is This Chocolate?" came out mid-2013 and is a fascinating mix of math rock, jazz fusion, avant-garde, and the catchy and delightful (it's also name your price on bandcamp if you want to check it out). For fans of math rock somewhat more off-kilter (Don Caballero comes to mind), and generally for fans of weird, complex, yet fun avant-prog.

Is This Chocolate?
Dumb Waiter RIO/Avant-Prog

Review by Argonaught

4 stars Too many new bands out there, not enough time .. phew ...

I am glad I made time for this album, though. Based on the immediate impression it produced, I'd classify the Is This Chocolate? as contemporary tongue-in-cheek, eclectic, witty and playful funky-jazzy fusion, but the RIO/Avant-Prog category it's listed under in the PA database doesn't sound too bad either :)

One of the things I really loved about the Is This Chocolate? is that each song has its distinctive style and sound, which makes them conspicuously different from each other. In other words, the Chocolate's philosophy is kind of diametrically opposed to the paradigm of concept albums. I believe Dumb Waiter did it on purpose to see how far they can go before someone notices the ruse.

Dumb Waiter's means of self-expression are versatile and eloquent. Also, their musicianship is strong, yet subtle and measured, which is a sign of a genuine talent and a huge bonus

The album is still selling at name-your-price, so maybe you should do yourself a favor and invest a fiver into the Chocolate.

Thanks to holymoly for the artist addition.
