Makkiwhipdies biography
MAKKIWHIPDIES was an experimental rock group formed by keyboardist and guitarist David COSGROVE. Up to this date, COSGROVE is still working in the domain of electronic rock music released under his name but with this band in the early 90's he surrounded himself with members known only by their nicknames to release a very unique record. 'His Name Is NNNNNN' could be described as an comic record similar to ZAPPA's albums with a less than obvious but possible concept floating throughout. The mostly instrumental album has catchy melodies and is inspired somewhat by classic symphonic rock but the wild execution of it can sometimes place it in a weird place between progressive rock of GENESIS and a mash up of snippets of radio jingles by the likes of THE RESIDENTS. A highly unique record, this album released in 1996 is the only one made by this line-up under this name but COSGROVE is still an active musician and he even made his most recent album 'Space Toucan' in 2012.

Review by jamiethomas

5 stars This is my first review, I can't not review this because it's so good and I worry that people might ignore it because there aren't any reviews and so few ratings.

There is not a dull moment in this album. It's got just enough crazy in it to still be accessible to people who prefer the more melodic side of the RIO/Avant genre. Throughout the album it is clear they were influenced by Zappa and The Residents, and quite possibly Mike Oldfield? There are quite a few moments in this album which are similar in feel to Mike Oldfield's Amarok (Another great melodic RIO album), which came out 6 years prior to this.

It's long, and that might put you off, but just set aside 20 minutes to listen to the title track and see if it's for you. The quality throughout the album is consistent (though the recording quality is lacking at times).

Thanks to historian9 for the artist addition.
