Descend biography
DESCEND are a progressive death metal band from Stockholm, Sweden, formed in 2003 by guitarist Andreas LIDSTROM. After three self-released demos, the debut album ''Through the Eyes of the Burden'' was released through Supernova Records in May 2011. The line-up is completed by Nima Farhadian LANGOURDI (vocals), Alex WIJKMAN (guitar), Justin BIGGS (bass) and Jonathan PERSSON (drums). January 2014 saw the release of their second album ''Wither'', which was recorded late summer 2012 in the UK.

The style of the music is complex with many acoustics parts to alternate the melancholic atmosphere. Many transitions open the songs to another dimension and the major influence is OPETH, no surprise here. The first EP ''The Reckoning'' had drums programmed and contains epic songs. The songs on the debut LP are more direct and better produced.

5 stars Wow, how good can be this band? I loved the first album and this one is even better. The vocals are deep and powerful, the atmospheres are haunting and the musicianship is top notch. It is also very reminiscent of the early Opeth, which to me is an extremely good thing. First and last tracks are my favourites but there really are no weak tracks here. I notice that their third album, The Deviant (2020) which is of similar quality of this one is missing in Progarchives, and I personally think that this band should have more recognition in this site. This album is a five star effort and is recommended to all fans of progressive rock and melodic death metal.

4 stars For quite a whle I have been looking for a band that captures and produces similar atmospheres and emotions as the early Opeth, and with Descend I am glad to say I finally found it! I am not saying that they are copycats, they retain a lot of originality, of course. It is the feeling, the darkness and these "walking into an eerie forest " sensation which they recreate so well. The band combines acoustic and death metal sections that flow extremely well, the album is easy to digest and leaves you wanting for more. I am now listening to their second album and it is great too. If I am not wrong, they have three, although the last is not listed in this site. I wonder how this band does not has more ratings and reviews here, I would recommend it to all fans of melodic death metal and Opeth especially. Four stars. Great job!
