Firmam3nt biography

FIRMAM3NT is an instrumental metal quartet formed in Madrid (Spain) by Alberto GARCIA (Moshtrenco, As My World Burns), Jorge SANTANA (long experienced drummer), Antonio DEL AMO (El Sombreo del Abuelo) y Txus ROSA (As My World Burns). In summer of 2013 they decide to join forces with the only purpose to enjoy making music without limits and frontiers, just letting the imagination flow in the rehearsal room and give full rein to all the influences stuck in their heads (such as OPETH, MASTODON, STEVEN WILSON, THE OCEAN, PORCUPINE TREE; RUSSIAN CIRCLES, PELICAN, CASPIAN, etc).

As a result we have dense, long and convoluted songs that we can enjoy in their 2016 self-titled debut, Firmament, which makes reference of the four points of the compass (N, S, E, W) and mixes several subgenres like Post metal, Progressive metal, Sludge and Doom. For fans who like extensive tracks with no traditional structures, and open minded fans. Welcome to the firmament!

Spanish band FIRMAM3NT was formed back in 2013, consisting of seasoned musicians with a desire to create music in a more expressive vein. "Firmament" is their debut album, and was released through Nooirax Producciones in 2016.

I found this album to be a solid production through and through, always with enough going on to maintain nerve and tension, while rarely if ever instigating changes and alterations at a pace that makes a chaotic impression. If this comes down to meticulous planning or merely a band with a well developed skill for improvisations is probably an open question, but the end result is an intriguing one anyhow. An album well worth a check by those with a taste for dark, expressive progressive metal of the post metal variety.
