GREATEST VIDEO HITS

I bought this pretty cheap when I had just purchased a DVD for the car so I was pleasantly delighted to sit back in the car and watch classic Yes clips presented in great audio and crisp picture quality.

This is probably a biased review because I have never seen these clips and it is great to watch Yes in action in the studio complete with kitsch 70s and 80s camera trickery and cheapo effects, without the live concert experience that they capitalise on all their other DVD releases. It makes a welcome change and stands alone as a testimony of the diversity of Yes.

Each clip is introduced by a key member of the band, and they all have interesting things to say, and best of all is Wakeman in typical cynical humorous fashion; check out his comments at the end of the DVD for some great Yes commentary! Hilarious.

It begins with the environmentally conscious 'Don't Kill the Whale' complete with whales and oceans and a very Young Yes Cast. Cheesy? Of course, but it still is a nice clip.

'Madrigal' is pleasant enough and quite rare so worth a look at an Elizabethan looking Wakeman in action. 'Tempus Fugit' and 'Into the Lens' shows the Buggles era Yes and in a sense is worthy due to the different feel and look of the band that is a part of their history. 'Hold On' is a great clip from the much celebrated 90125 CD and 'Leave It' is great fun and as warped and funny as anything they have ever done. 'It Can Happen' is a good addition to the repertoire and not often seen. 'Owner of a Lonely Heart' is presented in a glorious full length version, with the infamous false start (Maybe there is another way) and all the cast becoming animals. The clip was banned in some places, and here it is uncut and quite unpleasant in places with maggots in faces, crawling tarantulas and a brutal fist fight that culminates in the protagonist hurling himself from a building to an apparent suicide. We see him fly as an eagle over the city so theres a happy ending but it still holds its own for being a daring attempt at symbolism and powerful imagery throughout. Worthy of note too is the way the sparks fly in perfect time to the searing guitar solo - awesome! Its the best clip here and the most memorable in Yes history.

'Rhythm of Love' is the band in a glass set up, and a sexy female to oggle at throughout. Who is she? 'Love Will Find a Way' is yet another of the Yes ballads and a fairly good attempt at a clip.

'I've Seen All Good People: Your Move/All Good People' is a terrific live rendition of the classic and finishes the DVD off beautifully.

The verdict is - although this is flawed in places and features some of the cheesiest ideas for video clips you will find, get this DVD if you see it cheap, as it really is the culmination of all Yes most worthy video clips to date and as such a must for Yes fans.
