SPECIAL COLLABORATOR Honorary Collaborator
4 stars Trevor Dunn's (power) trio's second release. Dunn himself is well known as Mr.Bungle co- founder and excellent high energy bassist on Zorn's Cobra project,or most recent excellent Moonchild Trio.

On this album he plays his characteristic heavy distorted bass as part of explosive power trio with drummer Ches Smith and guitarist Mary Halvorson. Music varies from almost math rock to melancholic downtown jazzy moments to avant jazz. But main sound is hard and sharp guitar/bass fast and technical attack with great, almost ecstatic support from drummer.

Compositions all are different in mood, tempo and atmosphere, so listening is no way boring. Trevor demonstrates there many tricks he learned still in Mr.Bungle time, and from collaboration with Zorn as well for sure.

If heaviest and hardest album's moments could be compared with some brutal projects sound (as Ruins,Naked City, etc), there are plenty of softer, more melodic and different music on this album, what makes it even more attractive listening in my eyes.

Great release for avant prog of Moonchild Trio - kind lovers.
