Trevor Dunn biography
Trevor Roy Dunn - Born in 1968-01-30 (Eureka, USA)

Trevor Dunn first studied to play clarinet, then turned on bass. He continued to study music and double bass in college.
In 1986 both with vocalist Mike Patton and guitarist Trey Spruance he was co-founder of MR. BUNGLE. Besides of playing metal, trash and funk mixture of Mr.Bungle, at the same time he started to play jazz around San Francisco area.
After Mr.Bungle was disbanded in 2000, Trevor Dunn formed new trio Secret Chiefs 3 (with Trey Spruance and Danny Heifetz). At the same time he was a member of Mike Patton's heavy avant band FANTÔMAS.
Trevor Dunn's solo career has its roots in 1998, when he formed his own trio Convulsant. Their first album, Debutantes & Centipedes, features Dunn on bass, Adam Levy on guitar, and Kenny Wollesen on drums. Band plays more free/avant jazz based, but still really sharp and heavy avant prog. Trio's line up was chanded with time, their most recent release, 2004's Sister Phantom Owl Fish on Ipecac, includes Ches Smith on percussion and Mary Halvorson on guitar.
Starting from 2001 he became a regular collaborator on different John Zorn projects (including Electric Masada, Moonchild Trio,Cobra). Trevor's last to time (and more rock-oriented) project is MadLove band, with Sunny Kim on lead vocals, Ches Smith on drums, Hilmar Jensson on guitar, and Erik Deutch on keyboard. They recorded their debut album, White With Foam, during 2008, and it was released on Ipecac Records on September 1, 2009.

Special Collaborator Honorary Collaborator

4 stars Trevor Dunn's (power) trio's second release. Dunn himself is well known as Mr.Bungle co- founder and excellent high energy bassist on Zorn's Cobra project,or most recent excellent Moonchild Trio.

On this album he plays his characteristic heavy distorted bass as part of explosive power trio with drummer Ches Smith and guitarist Mary Halvorson. Music varies from almost math rock to melancholic downtown jazzy moments to avant jazz. But main sound is hard and sharp guitar/bass fast and technical attack with great, almost ecstatic support from drummer.

Compositions all are different in mood, tempo and atmosphere, so listening is no way boring. Trevor demonstrates there many tricks he learned still in Mr.Bungle time, and from collaboration with Zorn as well for sure.

If heaviest and hardest album's moments could be compared with some brutal projects sound (as Ruins,Naked City, etc), there are plenty of softer, more melodic and different music on this album, what makes it even more attractive listening in my eyes.

Great release for avant prog of Moonchild Trio - kind lovers.

Thanks to snobb for the artist addition. and to Quinino for the last updates
