Progressive Biography
Got into prog when I was about 9 years old. My brother was (still is) a big Dream Theater fan. Had all their CDs and everything, as well as another band, Liquid Tension Experiment and lastly Symphony X. I liked what I heard. It was different, interesting, new most of all. I started to listen to them too, much to my brother's pleasant surprise. It...stayed that way for awhile. Me not branching out to find other bands, nevermind prog bands. Sure, I liked the odd SoaD or Tool song, but that was about it. Then, I stumbled across a little band called Porcupine Tree. Heard The Sound of Muzak and I haven't turned back since. Quickly I discovered the incredible depths of prog music, like YES, Opeth, Ayreon, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Pain of Salvation and most of all KING CRIMSON. Dream Theater? Well, I still like them, but everything seems a little stale after listening to other bands now. Plus, I HAVE realized their song writing is not too hot. Still good stuff though.
Since this is a prog site, I'll exclude my metal favorites from the list.
1. Porcupine Tree
2. Devin Townsend
3. Pain of Salvation
4. King Crimson
5. Yes
6. Dredg
7. Opeth
8. Jethro Tull
9. Pink Floyd
10. Liquid Tension Experiment
Please know I type very fast so I make a lot of typos in my reviews. And sometimes my reviews might contradict themselves, but I usually fix that because sometimes I say things, then hear a new album or an album I missed and write a review saying it's their best. Then I gotta change the other review. Whatever.
Essential albums (10 desert island albums):
-Yes - The Yes Album
-Yes - Fragile
-Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
-Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element pt. 1
-Devin Townsend - Infinity
-Devin Townsend - Terria
-Dredg - El Cielo
-King Crimson - Lizard
-Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
-Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
